We know we're getting better and better... now it's official !
Brooksbank is among the top 100 secondary schools with the most sustained improvement in GCSE examinations. The good news was featured in the Evening Courier last Friday.
The number of A*- C grade passes in exams, including Maths and English, has risen from 37 per cent in 2006 to 57 per cent last year.
Calder Valley MP Chris McCafferty said: "It had one of the largest sustained increases in the country – a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the pupils and staff at the school, including the headteacher Jeanne Watson."
So keep up the good work! and remember... Aspire and Achieve !
THE BROOKSBANK SCHOOL CENTENARY BOOK
If we are part of your story, then you must be part of ours.
If you are, we’d like to hear from you.
Brooksbank is approaching a very special birthday in 2011. We will be celebrating the centenary of the foundation of The Brooksbank School on its current site on Victoria Road, Elland. Many of you will know that the school’s history stretches as far back as 1712 when Joseph Brooksbank provided a school for the poor children of Elland. In 1933, the name was changed to Elland Grammar School and by 1960, following major extension work, the name reverted to Brooksbank School. So we have a long history of which we are proud.
One of the ways in which we are planning to celebrate the centenary aspect of the school is to produce a book. The book will outline the history of Brooksbank from its earliest beginnings, but the main aim is to record and describe the many interesting things that have happened since its establishment at Victoria Road.
It is in this area that we need your help the most. A number of people have already come forward with their own fascinating stories about their years here. However, we are sure that there are many more of you who would welcome the opportunity to contribute to this unique opportunity.
Your family may have been coming to Brooksbank down the generations or you may have fond or funny memories of your time spent here, for example about the lessons, and the staff or specific events and highlights. We would love to hear from anyone who has a story to tell, a photograph or artefact or any other piece of information.
